Fennel seed has a taste similar to anise. Properly used it adds a sweet licorice note to biscotti, Italian pizelle cookies.  Fennel is also added to many ethnic sausage recipes.

Fennel seed dates back thousands of year.  Some used it to aid with snake bites and some hung it over the door to ward off evil spirits.
