Tulsi, is commonly known as holy basil. "Holy" because of its history of religious and spiritual significance, and "basil" because it comes from the same perennial herb as cooking basil. Native to the Indian subcontinent it flourishes in humid, tropical climates.

Tulsi typically has a strong aroma and sometimes bitter flavor with floral and peppery notes.

• Use 1 tsp per 6 oz cup. Heat water to 160-180° steep for 2-5 minutes.
