Nigella Seed is a little known spice that has a hint of savory scent but what it lacks in aroma it makes up in taste!  It has an oregano-like quality, with a slight bitter taste and a toasted onion flavor.  Add them whole to salads, sauces and at the last minute to soups.  Can be used as a replacement to sesame seeds without the sweetness.

Native to the Mediterranean, nigella seeds are said to have been found in King Tut's tomb.  They were widely viewed as a preservative and had healing powers.
